The list of stars signing on to play action figures brought to life in the G.I. Joe movie is growing longer. Recently, three more actors have joined the cast to don the camo.
Channing Tatum has signed on to play Duke, the lead character in the upcoming adaptation of the Hasbro toys. Muscular, square-jawed Tatum is perfect for the role. He made his starring debut as a soccer-stud in She’s the Man, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. He then danced across the screen in Step Up and stars as military man in Stop Loss, set for theatrical release this March.
Dennis Quaid will be playing General Hawk, the weathered team leader in G.I. Joe. The ruggedly handsome actor has played everything from wisecracking characters in Innerspace, Something to Talk About, and Undercover Blues to serious leading men in Wyatt Earp, Playing By Heart, Any Given Sunday, and Cold Creek Manor.
Arnold Vosloo has signed on to play Zartan, a mercenary working with Destro and Cobra. Brimming with good bad-guy charm, Vosloo played the Mummy Imhotep in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, starred on 24, and played Colonel Coetzee in the disturbing look at the world of diamonds Blood Diamond.
The Paramount film will start shooting next month in Los Angeles, with a planned release date of August 7, 2009. Directed by Stephen Sommers, Tatum, Quaid, and Vosloo join the cast of including Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, and Rachel Nichols.
