cartoonnetwork_logo_tnRobert Sorcher, chief content officer of the Cartoon Network, told SCI FI Wire that the cable network will turn Saturdays into a fantasy-adventure day.

In addition to the new series Star Wars: Clone Wars, the network will also feature a new animated incarnation of Batman in the fall.

"Clone Wars will anchor an evening programming block that will also include Batman: The Brave and the Bold from Warner Brothers, as well as the returning series Ben 10," Sorcher said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif., last week. "It will be a good night for sci-fi programs."

Ben 10 is about a 10-year-old who finds the Omnitrix, a high-tech gadget that looks like a watch and changes him into 10 aliens with different abilities.

Star Wars: Clone Wars supervising director David Filoni said that young audiences aren’t tired of the Star Wars saga, and the animated series is a new way of presenting the known characters. "Every time I go to Toys R Us," Filoni said, "there are kids picking up lightsabers and imagining themselves in that galaxy far, far away, and as long as it inspires them, I’m happy to make more."

The new Saturday night programming is not yet scheduled, but Sorcher said it will debut sometime after the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie hits theaters on Aug. 15.

JLA’s Brody Back In A Flash?

brody_theoc_tn Adam Brody, who was connected to George Miller’s now-stalled Justice League movie, told reporters that he’d still like to play the character of the Flash should the movie go forward, but that he has no inside knowledge about when that might be.

"I am a huge George Miller fan, and I’m a huge comic fan, so I’d still hang in," Brody said in a group interview on the set of Jennifer’s Body in Vancouver, Canada, on May 13. "But maybe I won’t be. I know Ryan Reynolds was attached to The Flash for awhile, and then I got the part, and then I read on the Internet, ‘Oh, he’s no Ryan Reynolds! He’s the only Flash.’ So if I don’t do it, hopefully in a year or so it’ll go to somebody else, and he’ll get s–t for not being me, and I was the only person that could ever have conceivably been the Flash."

Brody was one of several young Hollywood actors who were linked with Miller’s superhero movie, which is now on hold.

When asked if he’d consider playing a different superhero in the proposed adaptation of the DC Comics franchise, Brody laughed. ""F–k Ant Man, man," he said. "As for other heroes? There are a lot. I’m trying to think more in terms of graphic novels off the beaten path. They’re making a lot of them. But as I kid, I mean aside from The Flash, which I like, who’s always been a dream, would be to be Spider-Man. I always associated the most with Peter Parker. The rest are all [cool]. I mean, I could never be Batman, obviously. So they’re making a lot of awesome graphic novel movies that maybe I could be in, but the only one that from a kid that I’ve always been jealous of is Spider-Man."

Brody is currently wrapping the horror movie Jennifer’s Body, which is slated to open in 2009.

Dark Knight Trailer Unveiled

Posted by: rodtrent   in Comic Books, DC, Movies and Television

bale_batman_tn Fans at New York Comic Con previewed a new trailer for The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan’s latest chapter in the Batman saga, which featured a new look at Harvey "Two-Face" Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and the Joker (the late Heath Ledger) putting the moves on Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, replacing Katie Holmes).

The new trailer, which clocked in at slightly more than two minutes, also featured Dawes facilitating the first meeting between Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and Dent and the Joker addressing a gathering of Gotham’s criminal leaders. Toward the end, Dent gives Wayne an ominous warning: "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

Paul Levitz, DC Comics president, introduced the trailer as a surprise during a panel for The Incredible Hulk on April 19 and just before the surprise unveiling of a new Speed Racer trailer.
The trailer will hit theaters in a couple of weeks. The Dark Knight opens July 18.

Silver Wants Wonder Genesis Film

Posted by: rodtrent   in Comic Books, DC, Movies and Television

wonderwomanteaser_tn Uber-producer Joel Silver (the Matrix trilogy) told SCI FI Wire that he’s now thinking his on-again, off-again Wonder Woman feature film should tell the superhero’s origins.
"I thought for a while that I didn’t want to do a genesis story of Wonder Woman," Silver said in a group interview in Long Beach, Calif., on April 18 while promoting his next film, Speed Racer. "And so the first few drafts I created weren’t genesis stories. And I don’t know, maybe after I saw Spider-Man or whatever, I thought that it should be a genesis story. And then I had to kind of go back to the drawing board, because I had a version that the studio wanted to make that was not a genesis story."
Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon turned in one script for a Wonder Woman movie before leaving the project last year. Writers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, whose original spec script was purchased by Warner Brothers, are currently working on a new draft. Jennison and Strickland’s script was set in World War II, but Silver said that he doesn’t want to do a period story. Wonder Woman is based on the long-running DC Comics franchise about an Amazonian superhero.
"I just think it should be a genesis story, and I’ve got to find a way to tell it," Silver said. "Because whenever I got into the stuff, you know, Paradise Island and stuff, it was kind of goofy. But I’ve got to find a way to do it where it’s effective. I mean, I thought some of the stuff they did in 300 was great. I don’t know if I want to make it that way, but, I mean, I think there’s a way to do this where the audience is going to accept it. But I’ve got to figure it out."
As for Jennison and Strickland’s screenplay, Silver said: "It was a good script. They wrote a good script, and I liked it. But I think that I don’t want to make that movie that way. I want it to be a contemporary story."
Silver described the project as being "tabled for a while now," but added that he is still determined to find a way to make it work. "It’s sitting there, and when I figure out a way to do it, I’ll do it," he said.

Throw Back to the 70’s?

If so, I’ll be happy.
